4 May, 2017

La 33a edition of the Sagrada Familia Mile - 15è Gran Premio Gaudí SPORT, organized by the Claror Foundation, was presented this morning at 11.30 hours at the Eixample District headquarters. In the event, the athletes running the professional series of the race among those who stand out have been announced Carlos Alonso, Adel Mechaal, Abdelaziz Mezourgui, Esther Guerrero, Élian Périz i Ingrid Pino (see full list in the attached press dossier).
The 1.609 meters athletic race is celebrated on the 14 Sunday in May with the traditional route around the so-called Gaudí island, formed by the Sagrada Familia temple, the Plaza de la Sagrada Familia and the Plaza de Gaudí. The starting point will be located on Carrer de Mallorca, between the streets of Sardinia and Marina, and the arrival line will be on Carrer de Provença.
One of the peculiarities of the Mile is that it combines the popular side - with fifteen races from Benjamins to veterans - with the professional side as the two series of the SPORT Gaudi Grand Prix bring athletes of the national and international athletics elite .
La Milla, a race of great prestige
The councilor of the District of the Eixample, Montserrat Ballarín, stressed that the Milla "is one of the most successful popular activities implemented in the Sagrada Familia neighborhood" and added that it is incorporated in the neighborhood's main festival, but that "is fully consolidated and has a great prestige in its own right alone ". The Councilor thanked the intense dedication of the organizers and volunteers who contributed their efforts to the success of the Sagrada Familia Mile year after year and ended up emphasizing that "the Milla fits perfectly with our promotion of children's sports . "
The director of the Mile, Núria Borràs, stressed that "the key to the success of the Mile is the combination of professional athletes and those who are not." Borràs emphasized "the rhythm of inscriptions in the popular series goes well but I encourage you to make a last effort".
Solidarity inscriptions with the Hospital of Sant Joan de Déu
Another aspect that the director of the race wanted to emphasize is that the inscriptions to the absolute series of the Mile and the race The 3 Miles will be solidary with the construction of Sant Joan de Déu Pediatric Cancer Center, a pioneering hospital in Europe in the fight against childhood cancer. Pepi Casas, responsible for the campaign of the Hospital of Sant Joan de Déu, thanked the support of the Holy Family Mile and stressed that "the construction of this hospital is essential in our fight against childhood cancer." The event has also served to support the campaign to raise funds for the construction of the hospital that carries the slogan #paralvalientes
Good level of athletes in the professional series
Representing elite athletes have attended the event Ingrid Pino i Carlos Sáez. Both have agreed to emphasize the good level of athletes that will participate in the professional races of the Mile. "We are very excited to participate in the Mile for the first time," said Carlos Sáez, who said "I will try to do my best, although there is a lot of level and I will have to compete with athletes who are a reference for me ". Ingrid Pino, wanted to emphasize that "the poster of the female series is very competitive, although the absence of Solange Pereiria, winner of the last five editions, offers a more open picture."
Claror Fitness Fest
Coinciding with the celebration of the Sagrada Familia Mile and the 3 Milles race, Clubs Claror, the organizing entity of both races, will also offer a zumba fitness masterclass with live rock music from the 13 hours.
